Start Seeing Diversity Blog: Creating Art
I have collected my favorite diversity and inclusion quotes and put them together as artwork representing anti-bias awareness. Everyone deserves equality.
Through the course EDUC 6357: Diversity, Development, and Learning, I found that early childhood professionals and other adults who care about young children have deep faith in the principle that all people deserve the opportunities and resources to fulfill their complete humanity. Moreover, we have a unique role in making this principle real, promoting all children’s chances to thrive and succeed in school, work, and life. Anti-bias work is essentially optimistic work about the future for our children. It provides teachers a way to examine and transform their understanding of children’s lives and self-reflective work to understand their own lives more deeply. Ensuring that the early childhood program environment is open and welcoming to all families and staff is essential. And early childhood programs must value and believe regarding acceptance across racial, ethnic, gender, linguistic, ability differences, and more.
Hello Sawin,
ReplyDeleteThis week's blog was very insightful. I really enjoyed the different quotes surrounding diversity. I often tell my children that being different is not a bad thing, it just means you are unique. Just because everyone does not agree with your way of life, does not mean that you have to change it. Once everyone get to a point where they accept each other differences, it would make the walk through life so much easier.
Hello Sawin,
ReplyDeleteI love your images which are very powerful. Just looking at them gives one a sense of pride for belonging to a community where everyone feels valued and respected because we all need each other and life is more meaningful when we learn from each other. What you mentioned gets to the core of anti-bias education, that we need to use self-reflection to fully understand our own lives to see how we can improve and further support the children and families we serve.
Wonderful post,
