EDUC 6164: The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression

As we know that the early childhood programs are like a salad bowl that represents various children and families' diversity, including ethnicities, cultures, and linguists in communities. Every child deserves quality and effective early childhood programs that support and enhance the racial, linguistic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds in their families and communities. Building relationships with families and addressing the issues of inequities discovery in healthy development and learning, culturally responsive, and individually appropriate practice are the key factors that allow programs, teachers, and classrooms to appropriately establish quality, effective, and inclusive environments and practices to support children’s learning and growth.

My goal is to become a Navy CYP trainer to provide knowledge and train caregivers in my program regarding the awareness of diversity and inequities in early childhood field. I have gained expertise and practices to support early childhood educators, young children, and families of young children mentally and physically by providing knowledge, techniques, and child development resources based on diversity knowledge from this course.

Lastly, my personal and professional knowledge and practices have been grown and deepened a lot since the course began. From the course discussions that my classmates share their thoughts and understanding of early childhood, the professor, Dr. McCarty, gave valuable advice about my colleagues' blogs that inspire and exchange knowledge. Thank you so much, everyone, for your support and help me to become a better person and more understand the diversity in our society.

I love that your goal is so specific to your career and where you would like to take it. I think you would do well training people about being aware and checking their own personal bias, and creating more diverse classrooms and platforms. I think this course specifically taught us the importance of needing to have these conversations and how impactful they can be.
